YHA was selected to design multiple Architectural Typologies for a development on the Island of Nevis. From the layered historical perspective we researched, we saw an opportunity to define our own take and develop our own architectural vocabulary—one that acknowledges this Tropical Colonial lineage while remaining true to the spirit of Nevis—we are calling it Nevis Tropical Colonial. This evolving style draws from local traditions while incorporating a thoughtful reinterpretation of historical forms across the various typologies. It includes a custom column design inspired by the island’s National Flower, flat top arches referencing the earliest structural systems derives from post and lintel systems, single-pane French doors and windows for simplicity of form and a material palette grounded in natural materials.
