For the 2023 Kips Bay Decorator Show House, YHA transformed the Entry Foyer, Stair Hall, Elevator Vestibule, and Powder Room of the historic River Mansion on the Upper West Side. Inspired by the original owner—actress, suffragette, and world traveler Julia Marlowe—YHA infused the space with a dramatic yet whimsical aesthetic. The curved black glass wall panels, golden patina ceiling, and bespoke chandelier set a theatrical tone in the foyer, while the stair hall’s swirling white dimensional plaster offered a striking contrast—an interplay of light and dark, traditional and modern.
